In Memoriam

Wendy Elizabeth Brown King, B.S., Physiology, 1988, died on August 6 at age 31 in a traffic accident in Eugene, Ore., during a vacation with her family. As a student at Davis, and while living in Washington state, Ms. King worked in nursing homes and became dedicated to geriatric health care. In 1990, she completed a registered nurse program at Seattle Central Community College. Most recently, she worked as a geriatric nurse at Christa Nursing Home in Seattle.

Ms. King is survived by her husband, David King, who was seriously injured in the accident; two daughters, Shelby and Michelle; mother, Elizabeth Burlingame-Smith; father and stepmother, Robert and Laurice Brown; sisters, Aimee Johnson and Jamie Treat; brother, Paul Brown; and stepbrother Philip Treat.

Friends of Ms. King, Edith Chezik (B.A., Biological Sciences, 1988) and Jon Van Valkenburg (B.S., Zoology, 1988) have established "The Wendy Brown King '88 Memorial Scholarship Fund" in the Division of Biological Sciences. The scholarship will provide support to undergraduate majors in physiology. "Our intention," says Director of Development Elizabeth Bishay, "is to create a current-use memorial fund to support physiology students in the next academic year. Should the fund build to $10,000, however, we will be able to establish an endowment fund in Ms. King's memory. This would enable UC Davis to make an annual award in perpetuity in her name." For further information about the fund, contact Bishay in the Division of Biological Sciences Dean's Office, at (530) 754-9253, or by e-mail at ehbishay@ucdavis.edu
